Hello Friends,

Our March concert features a couple of RPO musicians making their SCMR debuts. RPO’s new principal harpist, Grace Browning, will make her first appearance on the series with this French harp spectacular which also marks the debut of RPO’s new principal violist, Aaron Mossburg. Both of these young musicians are wonderfully talented additions to our orchestra and musical community of Rochester.

SCMR’s most recent Composition Competition consisted of high school composers’ submissions and we are so pleased that the winning piece was an intriguing work by Matthew Lucia, who was a senior at Pittsford Mendon High School when he won last year. Matthew will return to Rochester to attend rehearsals and will be working with and receiving input from our musicians during the preparation period. We believe that collaboration on this level with young composers is extremely beneficial to their development.

The first half will conclude with Jacques Ibert’s lively Trio for Violin, Cello and Harp, where Grace will be joined by Thomas Rodgers and Kathy Kemp. The second half of the concert consists of two wonderful works: Claude Debussy - Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp and Chant de Linos for Flute, Violin, Viola, Cello and Harp by Jolivet.

Warmly,
Erik Behr and Juliana Athayde
